MADISON, N.J. (February 13, 2018) - The FDU men's basketball team was clipped by Manhattanville 85-74 on Senior Night Tuesday evening.
In a pregame ceremony, the men's basketball team honored seniors
Steve Herdman,
Ryan Rigby,
Veon Lassiter and
Alex Hanssen.
The Valiants, who never trailed in the contest, scored the 26 of games opening 35 points, spanning the first 10:38. The Devils had trouble defending the perimeter in the opening 20, surrendering seven treys in the first half. FDU cut the gap down to 12, thanks to a 6-0 run which was finished off by freshman
Jimmy Olaniyi. The Devils shot well in the half, going 13-of-25 from the field but trailed by 16 heading into the break.
After a chaotic start to the second half, the Devils made their comeback attempt. A 7-0 spurt capped off by freshman
Ahmad St. Fleur's free throw cut the deficit down to four at 64-60. Lassiter tipped in a miss with 6:07 left to make the game a two-point game, but the Valiants went on a 7-0 run to re-establish a nine lead. The Devils were unable to get any closer than six, as a three-pointer with 54 seconds sunk the Devils comeback hopes.
St. Fleur led the team with 20 points, five rebounds and four steals, while Lassiter notched 12 points and eight boards. Herdman had 11 points and five rebounds, with Olaniyi tallying eight points and nine rebounds.
