Four in Double Figures Keys Men's Basketball Past Southern Maine

HARTFORD, Conn. (December 31, 2018) - Behind four players in double figures, the FDU-Florham men's basketball team posted a 77-56 victory over Southern Maine in the consolation game of the Trinity College Holiday Invitational Monday.

The Devils improve to 4-8, while the Huskies fell to 3-8.

After USM tied the game at two 1:21 into the game, the Devils led the remainder of the way. Southern Maine got as close three at 13-10 with 9:23 left in the opening half, but senior Tyler Christie started an 8-3 run which was capped off by a pair of free throws from senior Eric Ray. A trey from the Huskies brought the lead down to five, FDU closed the half out on an 11-3 rally, with sophomore Oliver Ortman canning a pair of triples during the run.

The Huskies notched the first points of the second stanza, but junior Andy Fleurantin converted back-to-back three-pointers as the lead swelled to 17. With 12:24 left in the second period, USM chipped the gap down with an 8-0 spurt. That would be as close as they would get, as the Devils tallied the next 14 points over the next three minutes. Ray and junior Rajaan Dixon each hit from behind the arc, with Ortman chipping in eight during the run.

In addition to Ortman, the Devils received significant second half contributions from Fleurantin who poured in 15 points and senior Anthony Mitchell. Mitchell, who scored 20 points yesterday, chipped in eight points including a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.
