Men's Basketball Knocked Off by Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. (December 30, 2018) - The FDU-Florham men's basketball team was topped by Trinity College 61-49 in the opening game of the Trinity College Holiday Invitational Sunday.

The team falls to 3-8 on the season, while Trinity moves to 8-3.

Defense was the story to open the game, as the Devils kept the Bantams off the scoreboard for the first 10:08 of the game. FDU pumped in the games first nine points with seniors Tyler Christie and Anthony Mitchell notching all nine points during the run. Trinity shrunk the lead with five with just 1:43 remaining in the first, but senior Darren Davy converted a layup with nine seconds left, sending the Devils into halftime with a seven point edge.

FDU shot 41.7% from the field in the opening 20 minutes, while limiting the Bantams to 19.2%. Mitchell led all scorers with 10 points in the opening stanza.

Christie extended the lead to double-digits 11 ticks into the second period, nailing a triple off a Mitchell feed. The host Bantams responded with a 12-2 rally, leveling the game as 27 with 15:41 left in the second. After trading points, junior Andy Fleurantin pushed the Devils back in front thanks to a pair of free throws.

Trinity took over, going a game-changing 14-4 spurt to notch a 10 point lead with just a shade over six minutes left in the half. Davy's layup with 4:08 left made it a two possession affair with 4:08 remaining, but Trinity scored 10 of the final 14 markers to to close out the game.

  • Mitchell led all scorers with 20 points. It was the second 20 point outing of the season for the senior.
  • FDU converted all six free throws, the first time they've been perfect from the charity stripe this season.
