Andy Fleurantin, the FDU-Florham men's basketball team was topped by Vassar 62-57 Monday evening.
The Devils drop to 2-5, while Vassar improves to 2-2 on the season.
FDU opened up a six point lead six minutes into the game, with junior
Rajaan Dixon and Smith converting three pointers during a 6-0 spurt. The visiting Brewers countered with an 11-0 run of their own over the next three minutes, pulling in front by five. That run swelled into an 18-4 rally, with Vassar jumping in front 32-21 with just 49 seconds left. FDU ended the stanza with five straight points, as Fleurantin canning a triple and senior

Smith and Fleurantin each registered eight points during the opening 20 minutes, while Smith had a team-best four boards in the half.
The Devils trimmed the lead down to four points with 13:38 left, with sophomore
Oliver Ortman hitting from behind the arc on two straight possessions. Senior
Anthony Mitchell made it a one possession game with a triple, but Vassar used a 10-0 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 13 points, 51-38.
After trading baskets, Davy and Mitchell combined for the next six points to once again bring the lead down to just seven. Smith capped off a 9-0 run over 1:10 span late in the half with consecutive treys, whittling the gap to just three points. FDU had a chance for the tie with 21 seconds remaining after a Vassar miss, but a three-point attempt was off the mark. Vassar converted four late free throws sandwiched around a Mitchell layup to establish the final margin.
INSIDE THE BOX
- Fleurantin set a career-high with his 14 points. His previous best of 12 came in consecutive games against the of University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and Stevenson University.
- FDU committed just three turnovers in the first period and forced 11 Vassar turnovers.
- The Devils knocked down a season-high 12 three-pointers, led by four each from Fleurantin and Smith.
- Davy dished out a season-best three assists.
- The team scored 18 points off of 20 Vassar turnovers. The 18 points were the third most off of turnovers this season.
