Dixon's Double-Double Sends Men's Basketball Past Pitt-Bradford

OWINGS MILL, Md. (November 16, 2018) - Junior Rajaan Dixon posted a double-double as the FDU-Florham men's basketball topped the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford 66-53 in the Buffalo Wild Wings Classic Friday evening.

The Devis, who leveled their record to 2-2, advanced to the Championship Game of the tournament tomorrow at 4 p.m. FDU will face either Clarks Summit or host Stevenson, while Pitt-Bradford will play again at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Consolation Game.

Neither could grab more than a four point lead early on before Pitt-Bradford went on a 9-0 spurt to pull in front 14-9. A layup by senior Tyler Christie with just over 10 minutes remaining in the opening leveled the game at 15, but another eight point run by the Panthers saw the lead swell to eight.

Sophomore Oliver Ortman kick-started a 9-0 run by the Devils, which saw Ortman, senior Derek Leohner and junior Andy Fleurantin all hit from behind the arc. FDU closed out the half by scoring eight of the final, capped off with a Leohner layup to end into the break with a 35-31 lead. Christie had eight points in the half, shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from the field.

FDU stretched the lead pushed the lead to double-digits, with senior Anthony Mitchell hitting a layup with 14:53 remaining in the stanza. Dixon scored FDU's next seven points, finishing his run off with a steal and then going in for the layup to make the score 60-47 in favor of the Devils. Mitchell and junior Kenneth LaRocca each hit a pair of free throws down the stretch, sealing the victory.

The Devils defense held the Panthers to just 24.14% shooting in the second period, and forced 10 turnovers. Dixon finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Christie added 11 on 4-of-4 shooting. Fleurantin chipped in 12 points off the bench, knocking down three attempts from behind the arc.
