MADISON, N.J. (October 6, 2018) - The FDU-Florham men's soccer team dropped a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom contest to Eastern University 4-1, Saturday afternoon.
The Devils are 3-9, 0-2-0 in the MAC Freedom, while Eastern improves to 8-2-1, 2-0-0 in the conference
Sophomore
Justin Estremera netted his conference leading seventh goal of the year but the Devils offense wasn't able to complete the comeback after falling behind early. Freshman
Tiernan Grey recorded five saves in net for the Devils.
The Eagles got on the board quickly scoring on their first two shots of the day to go ahead 2-0. The goals were scored in the sixth and 15
th minute. Estremera cut the Eagles lead in half in the 29
th minute, when his shot deflected of the keeper's hands and found the back of the net. Both teams continued to battle for the rest of the half but neither team scored again. Eastern held an 8-5 shot advantage at half but both teams had three corners.
The Devils best chance to tie the score up in the second half came from a free kick in the 70
th minute. Estremera's set up freshman
Vincenzo Russo for the header attempt that went wide right. Four minutes later, the Devils were called for a foul inside their box to set up an Eastern penalty shot. Eagles' Jake Sankey converted on the opportunity to make it a 3-1 game.
A minute later the Eagles were awarded another penalty shot but were unable to convert this time. The Devils were only able to get one more shot during the remaining 15 minutes of play meanwhile the Eagles scored again to push the score to 4-1.
The Devils will travel to Doylestown, Pennsylvania on Tuesday October 9, to play the Delaware Valley Aggies in conference play.
