MADISON, N.J. (October 4, 2018) - The FDU-Florham volleyball team fell to Kean University 25-21, 25-17, 25-17 on Thursday evening.
The Devils drop to 7-17, as Kean improves to 13-8.
Kean used a 4-0 rally in the first stanza to leap in front 13-7. After the Cougars charged in ahead 18-12, junior
Nathalia Padron reeled off four straight markers, finished off with a kill from senior
Lauren Harris. A Harris kill brought the Devils within a point at 20-19, but Kean notched five of the final seven points to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The visitors stormed in front 8-5, but senior
Katie Quinlan slammed a kill to cut into the lead. The Devils would not any closer than six, with Kean closing out the set on consecutive kills.
The final set went back and forth, featuring four tie scores. A mid-frame 4-0 run by the Cougars turned the tide, with Kean going up 20-15. Senior
Marissa Lehnert and Padron recorded kills to go keep FDU within reach, but a service ace by the Cougars clinched the match.
Harris led the way with 11 kills, while sophomores
Rebecca Morse and
Jessica Garreffa combined for 25 digs,
FDU resumes conference play on October 10, traveling to Purchase, N.Y. to take on Manhattanville at 7 p.m.
