FDU Drops Match To Eastern On Senior Night

MADISON, N.J. (October 24, 2018)  - The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham volleyball team lost 3-0(25-17, 25-18, 25-22), to Eastern University on Senior Appreciation night, Wednesday night.  

 Seniors Marissa Lehnert, Katie Quinlan, and Lauren Harris were honored before tonight's contest. Lehnert finished with seven kills and a block assist, while Quinlan added three kills of her own. Harris had a match high 14 kills.  

Freshman Kacie Ros had a team high 28 assist and sophomore Rebecca Morse led the club with 12 digs.  

Both teams battled early but a 6-2 eastern run pushed the score to 13-8 in favor in Eastern. The teams continued to trade points until the Eagles extended the lead to 22-16. Following the Quinlan kill which made the score 22-17, the Eagles closed out the set with three straight points.  

The Devils led early in the second set 7-6 because of a huge spike by Harris on a free ball. The Devils held the led until, with the score at 11-10. The Eagles responded with three straight points and never looked back. The Devils would tie the game again at 13-13 but was unable to complete the comeback and the Eagles took the second set 25-18. 

The third set was the closest the Devils came to winning a set.  The Devils jumped out to a 2-0 lead and held the lead at 6-4. The Eagles responded with a quick 6-1 run. However, before the Eastern lead could get out of hand, sophomore Liz Moise and Lehnert combined for a block which shifted momentum in favor of FDU-Florham. The Devils late comeback attempt was fueled by consecutive Aces by Junior Nathalia Padron to cut the Eagles lead to 18-16. The Eagles were on the verge of winning with the score 24-18 but the Devils never gave up scoring four straight points before the comeback was ended by a setter attack. 

The Devils will face off against the DeSales Bulldogs in the MAC Freedom Semi-Finals. Date and time of the match is not yet determined.
