CENTER VALLEY, PA. (October 31, 2018) - The FDU-Florham volleyball team lost to DeSales University in the MAC Freedom Semifinal matchup Wednesday night, 3-0(25-11, 25-17, 25-21)
Senior
Lauren Harris had team highs in kills and digs with 12 and 21 respectively. Freshman
Kacie Ros had led the Devils with 20 assists. Senior
Katie Quinlan added five kills and 2.5 total blocks.
The Devils won the first point of the night but then dropped the next six points to the Bulldogs, before calling their first timeout of the set. FDU-Florham responded by scoring the next two points, which included a kill from Harris. The teams continued to trade points until with the score at 11-6, the Bulldogs went on a 12-2 run to pull away in the first
set. The Devils eventually loss the set 25-11.
In the second set, the Devils started on a 3-0 run, which the Bulldogs responded with four straight points of their own. The Devils took advantage of consecutive Bulldog errors to reclaim the lead. The teams continued to trade points until with the score 7-6 in favor of the Devils, DeSales rattled off a 7-2 run until FDU-Florham called a timeout. The Bulldogs scored the next two points following the timeout to make the score 15-9. The Devils were able to cut the lead down to three at 18-15, but that was as close as the comeback was going to come as the Bulldogs pulled ahead and finished the second set 25-17.
With kills from both Quinlan and junior
Nathalia Padron, the Devils came out to a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs responded with three in a row, but the Devils responded with a 6-0 run of their own to make the score 8-3 in favor of the Devils. Following a DeSales timeout, both teams traded points until another short FDU-Florham run pushed the score to 12-5. The teams would both trade off three-point runs to make the score 15-8. The Bulldogs used a 6-0 run to get back into the set, but the Devils held the lead until DeSales tied it at 18. The score ended up tied again at 20 following a bulldog error, however the Bulldogs would close the match on a 5-1 run to finish off the Devils.
The Devils will finish the 2018 season with the record of 13-19, 4-3 MAC Freedom play.
