WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (October 20, 2018) - Sophomore
Kira Bradley and junior
Mia Capozzoli of the FDU-Florham women's tennis team each advanced to the finals of the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships.
Bradley, who was seeded No. 2 in the fourth singles flight, took down Emily Cruz-Pineda of Arcadia to advance to the finals. The sophomore was victorious 6-3, 6-3 to set up a showdown with top-seeded Erin Volutza of Wilkes. Volutza knocked off Bradley 6-2, 6-1 to claim first in the flight.
Capozzoli grinded out a tough semifinal win over No. 3 seed Elizabeth Drda of Lebanon Valley in the fifth singles flight. The junior dropped the first set 7-5 before rebounding with a 6-1 win to force a third frame. Capozzoli was triumphant 10-8 in the set, moving on to face top-seeded Rachel Thomas of Wilkes. Much like Bradley, Capozzoli was knocked off in the final round, falling 7-5, 6-0.
Two other Devils had their day end in the semifinals. Sophomore
Nicole DelRosso, the No.4 seed in the first singles flight, was bumped off by top seeded Emily Fernandez of King's. DelRosso fell in straight 6-0, 6-0. Senior
Allyson Wolf also saw her day end in the semis. Wolf, the No. 2 seed at No. 3 singles, was topped by Julia Paraboschi of Arcadia 6-0, 6-3.
The tournament closed out the Devils fall season, and play will resume for the team in the spring.
