WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (October 20, 2018) - The FDU-Florham women's tennis team pushed four individuals through to the semifinals of the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships.
The semifinals and finals will begin tomorrow at 10:15 a.m.
Sophomore
Nicole DelRosso, who was seeded No. 4 at No. 1 singles, advanced to tomorrow's semifinal round. The sophomore notched a 6-1, 6-1 straight set victory over Jenna Skove in the first round. DelRosso earned her second win in singles play with a three-set win over Amanda Phillips of Alvernia. She dropped the first set 7-6 (4) before winning 6-0, 10-6 in the final two.
Junior
Christine Kenny pulled off a stunning upset in the second doubles flight. The unseeded Kenny picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kirstyn Davidson of Stevenson, who was seeded No. 4. Kenny was eliminated in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 by Lizza Gonzales of Manhattanville in the quarterfinal round.
Senior
Allyson Wolf is also through to the semifinal round, needing just one victory on Saturday. Wolf, who earned a bye as the No. 2 seed, was victorious over Meridyth Sanders of Lebanon Valley 6-2, 6-1. Wolf will take on unseeded Julia Paraboschi of Arcadia in the semifinals tomorrow.
Sophomore
Kira Bradley was another semifinal qualifier on Saturday, needing to win just one match. After earning a bye as the No. 2 seed in the fourth singles flight, Bradley registered a 7-5, 6-2 win over Laura Covely of Alvernia. The sophomore will take on No. 3 seeded Sarah Chan tomorrow morning.
Much like Wolf, junior
Mia Capozzoli needed just one win to advance to the semifinals Sunday morning. After receiving a bye as the No. 2 seed, Capozzoli took down Nina Bretz of Stevenson 7-5, 6-2. The junior will face No. 3 seeded Elizabeth Drda of Lebanon Valley in the semis.
Sophomore
Brooke Dorsey reached quarterfinals at No. 6 singles, knocking off Nicole Fox of Delaware Valley. Dorsey did not drop a game as she won 6-0, 6-0. She was eliminated in her second match by No. 1 seeded Sarah Malone of Wilkes, 6-1, 6-0. Freshman
Erin Weller fell in the only match she played, losing 6-1, 7-5 (5) at No. 7 singles.
In doubles play, Wolf and Dorsey were topped at No. 2 doubles, ending their run in the semifinals. They were topped by Francesca Varela-Seri and Dasha Yakhnis 8-1. Bradley and DelRosso also fell in the semis, falling 8-4 to the Messiah pairing at No. 1.
Kenny and Capozzoli, seeded No. 1 in the third flight, dropped a tiebreaker 8-7 (7-3) to Sarah Chan and Bailey Greco of DeSales. Chan and Greco were the No. 4 seed in the flight. Finally, Weller and junior
Logan Squires were knocked off in the semifinal round by Wilkes 8-5.
