DALLAS, Pa. (October 20, 2018) – The FDU-Florham men's soccer team fell 5-1 to Misericordia Saturday afternoon.
The Devils dropped to 5-11, 2-4 within the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom, as Misericordia improves to 5-9-1, 4-2 in the MAC Freedom.
Both teams traded attempts early one, but Misericordia began to take over. Freshman Tiernan Grey made a pair of saves in the eighth minute, before making his third of the game in the 17th minute. The Cougars broke through for a goal in the 18th minute, as Dylan Molyneaux converted a Braiden Christie pass to go up 1-0.
The Devils had a pair of corner kicks in the 41st minute, but an attempt by sophomore Nick Halpin sailed high. Misericordia held 12-4 edge in shots, but the Devils out-cornered the Cougars 4-1. Grey made five stops in the opening 45 minutes.
The Cougars wasted little time in doubling the lead, as Molyneaux notched his second of the game 31 seconds into the second stanza. In the 66th minute, FDU cut the lead in half, as freshman Salvatore Vassallo beat the goalkeeper high off a pass from senior John Timmes.
Misericordia recorded two goals in just over three minutes, with the fourth goal coming on a chip shot from Nick Szczerba. The host Cougars capped off the scoring in the 79th minute, as Jared Houser corralled a cross and went high off the far post for a goal.
Grey made seven saves in the setback, while sophomore Ricky La Stella had two of the team's five shots.
The Devils wrap up the regular season Saturday evening, hosting Wilkes at 5 p.m.
