Men's Soccer Falls in Season Finale Against Wilkes

MADISON, N.J. (October 27, 2018) - The FDU-Florham men's soccer team lost to Wilkes University 4-3, on senior night Saturday afternoon.

The team honored Seniors John Timmes, Romeo Lopez, Jake Karlsberg, and Nat Amadeo in not only their final game at Robert T. Shields field, but also their final collegiate game.

Timmes, sophomores Brandon McGregor and Ricky La Stella all netted a goal for the Devils while freshmen Tiernan Grey had six saves in net.

Wilkes outshot FDU in the first half 8-1 before the 38th minute when Lopez was fouled in the box resulting in a penalty shot. On the penalty shot, Timmes went left and the goalkeeper dove the other way which resulted in Timmes netting his first goal of the season. The lead only lasted four minutes because the Colonels tied the game off a corner set.

After outshooting the Devils 11-3 in the first half, the Colonels continued their offensive attack including a goal in the 56th minute. However, the Devils responded in the 61st minute when sophomore Shaun Bishop flicked a long ball right in front of the goalkeeper, which McGregor put into the back of the net.

Both teams continued to fight but the Colonels pulled ahead in the 75th minute when they scored off a rebound. Wilkes added an insurance goal in 80th minute. The Devils never gave up on the game. In the 87th minute La Stella scored from 40-yards out with a rainbow of a shot that went over the keeper's head. A minute later, junior Davide Sousa rifled a shot from 30-yards out an almost beat the keeper but a full extension save, preserved the Colonels' lead.

The FDU-Florham team finished the season with a 5-12 overall record, going 2-5 in conference play. Wilkes will finish the season with an 8-8-1 overall record including 3-4 in conference play.
