MADISON, N.J. (October 2, 2018) - The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-10, 25-21, 25-22), to DeSales University in a conference match-up Tuesday night.
FDU drops to 7-16, 2-2 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom, while DeSales moves to 14-5, 4-0 in conference.
Senior Marissa Lehnert had a team high seven kills and freshman Kacie Ros lead the Devils with 20 assists. Harris added five kills, two aces and 13 digs.
In the first set, DeSales took a quick 7-0 advantage forcing FDU-Florham to use an early timeout. The Devils would take the next point but then surrender the next three to fall behind 10-1. The Devils held a negative .171 hit percentage in the first set compared to the Bulldogs .276 percentage.
The Devils fell behind 7-1 in the second set before exchanging points with DeSales to make the score 14-7. The Devils used the momentum from a Liz Moise kill to go on a 9-2 run to level the score at 16. The Bulldogs responded with three straight points to reclaim the lead at 19-16. The Devils took advantage of two DeSales errors to tie the score again at 19 but were unable to claim the lead in the second set.
The Devils fell behind in the final set early and struggled to comeback until, with the score at 18-10 in favor of DeSales, the Devils went on a 8-0 run fueled by two Harris aces. Once the Devils were able to tie the score, the Bulldogs responded with a four point run to reclaim the lead which they would not surrender again.
The Devils will be home again Thursday night against Kean University at 7 p.m.
