WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (October 19, 2018) - The FDU-Florham women's tennis team sent three doubles pairings through to the semifinal round of the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championship Friday.
The tournament, which will now be three days long, will resume tomorrow morning. Tomorrow will feature the first two rounds of singles action and the semifinals and finals of doubles.
At No. 2 doubles, the fourth seeded team of sophomore
Brooke Dorsey and senior
Allyson Wolf cruised into the quarterfinals. The duo notched an 8-0 win over Jennifer Slick and Abbey Bloom of Hood. Wolf and Dorsey made it two wins and through to the semis with an 8-2 triumph over Amanda Adams and Robin Schwarzmann of Messiah. That tandem will meet No. 1 seeded Wilkes in the semifinals tomorrow.
No. 3 doubles, juniors
Christine Kenny and
Mia Capozzoli earned a bye into the quarterfinals after gaining the No. 1 seed in the flight. They advanced to the semifinals with an 8-3 victory over Nina Bretz and Taelor Brown of Stevenson. Kenny and Capozzoli will face No. 4 seeded Sarah Chan and Bailey Greco of DeSales tomorrow.
Newcomers
Logan Squires and
Erin Weller fared well at No. 4 doubles, picking up an 8-1 win over Natalie Clarke and Sabrina Riccardi of DeSales in the first round. The duo then qualified for the semifinals with an 8-2 win over the Stevenson pairing. Weller and Squires will face Nicole Gaetani and Rachel Thomas of Wilkes for a berth in the finals.
Sophomores
Nicole DelRosso and
Kira Bradley competed at the top of the lineup, and earned an 8-3 win over Cassidy Breen and Allison Mattucci of Misericordia. The duo was eliminated in the quarters, falling 8-4 to Kaitlyn Russell and Emily Wichert of Messiah. Bradley and DelRosso were down 7-1 at one point, but took the next three games to battle back to 7-4 before being taken down.
