Devils Win Second Straight Conference Game in Shutout Fashion

MADISON, N.J. (October 13, 2018) - The FDU-Florham men's soccer team earned their first shutout of the season against DeSales University, defeating them 1-0, Saturday night.  

The Devils improve to 2-2 in the MAC Freedom while DeSales falls to 1-3 in MAC Freedom play. 

Sophomore Justin Estremera netted his eight goal of the season and freshman Tiernan Grey made six saves for the Devils. The game was very physical resulting in a total of six yellow cards. Four for the visitors and two for FDU-Florham.  

The Devils held a 9-7 shot advantage heading into halftime. The Bulldogs applied pressure to the Devil's defense and in the 33rd minute they fired a shot for the top-corner, but a diving save by Grey kept the game scoreless. The Devils nearly scored in the 44th minute when freshman Billy Farnan got his header above and past the goalkeeper, but a Bulldog's defender cleared the ball before the ball cross the end-line.  

Both Clubs could not find the back of the net during the second half however, the closest chance of a goal being scored happened in the 65th minute when sophomore Ricky La Stella's shot hit off the post. The Devils were unable to collect the rebound from the shot and the game remained tied. At the end of regulation, the Bulldogs held a 16-15 advantage in shots and a 6-3 shot on goal advantage.  

Within the first two minutes of overtime the Devils were able to score and walk-off winners. Estremera received the ball from sophomore Shaun Bishop and then fired a shot far corner to beat DeSales keeper for game-winner.  

The Devils will host Manhattanville College, Wednesday October 17 at 3 p. m.
