DALLAS, PA. (January 6, 2018) - The FDU men's basketball team was topped by Misericordia 76-55 Saturday afternoon.
The loss was second straight in conference play for the Devils, while the Cougars improved to 2-0 in MAC Freedom play.
FDU opened a 7-6 lead 3:30 into the game thanks to a triple from junior
Anthony Mitchell, but the Cougars used a 6-0 run to pull in front shortly thereafter. Mitchell would connect on the another with 2:58 left in the first half, shortening the Cougar lead to two points at 28-26.
Misericordia closed the first half on an 8-2 run, building an eight lead heading into halftime. The Cougars shot 52.2% from the field in the opening 20, while FDU shot 38.7%.
The hosts stretched the lead to 15 just four minutes into the second stanza, a 6-0 rally by FDU, capped off with an
Edwin Lopez layup trimmed the gap to single digits.
That would be as close as the Devils would get, as Misericordia reeled off 12 consecutive points to push the lead to over 20 points.
Playing against his former team, junior
Darren Davy totaled a game-high 22 points while Mitchell had 12. Freshman
Jimmy Olaniyi pulled down a team-best eight rebounds in the setback.
The Devils will look to rebound with a home game against King's at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening.
