CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (September 30, 2017) - The FDU men's soccer team was upended by DeSales 2-0 on Saturday.
The setback drops the Devils to 0-9 and 0-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom, while DeSales moves to 9-1, 1-0 in conference.
FDU had a chance in the fifth minute, but freshman
Ricky La Stella sent a shot that was stopped by the Bulldog keeper. Junior
Jake Karlsberg had a pair of shots, but neither could find the back of the net. In the 40th minute, DeSales got on the board as Joey Malvesuto chipped a Max Cortina pass past the goalie. With time winding down in the half, La Stella had an another opportunity that was snuffed out by the Bulldog goalie.
Senior Jt Bretschneider made four huge saves in the second half, as the Devils tried to find an equalizer. The offense was only able to attempt two shots over the final 45 minutes of play, as chances by
Nat Amadeo and
Shawn Jennings were unable to find the net. In the 82nd minute, the Bulldogs found an insurance goal, as Zach Reichard took a shot that deflected off the goalie and in, establishing the final 2-0 margin.
Bretschneider made seven saves in the loss, while Jennings, La Stella and Karlsberg all had two shots.
