MADISON, N.J. (September 15, 2017) - The FDU field hockey team earned its second consecutive win with a 3-1 triumph over Union College Friday.
The Devils move to 5-1 on the season, while Union drops to 1-2.
FDU drew first blood in the sixth minute, as the Devils were able to convert off a penalty corner opportunity. Senior
Gabby Allen inserted the ball to junior
Makayla Pak, who made a pass from up top to the right wing where senior
Marissa Kowalskie was waiting. Kowalskie knocked the cross in from seven yards out for her second goal of the season.
Just under four minutes later, sophomore
Marie Pietracatella had a shot blocked, but classmate
Maggie Sohns cleaned up the rebound for her first goal of the season. The Devils would add a final first half tally, junior
Chrissy Penney took a shot that Allen got a stick on for the goal.
The Devils dominated the first half, firing 11 shots to the Dutchwomen three. Dutchwomen goalkeeper Heather Poisson kept the team in the game, making five saves in the opening 35 minutes.
Union had a golden opportunity in the 61st minute, but a shot was stopped by freshman
Megan March. The Dutchwomen did get a goal in the 63rd minute, as Charlotte Leyland fired home a corner pass.
Junior
Samantha Rubin made one save in 53:24, while senior
Paige Zawislak fired a game-high four shots.
The Devils will be back in action on Monday, hosting Rowan at 7 p.m.
