Men's Soccer Bested by Lions

MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham men's soccer team fell to The College of New Jersey, 3-0, Wednesday night at Robert T. Shields Field.

The Devils fall to 0-5 on the season as the Lions improve to 4-2.

Senior goalie JT Bretschneider had a standout game for the Devils with eight saves, but FDU-Florham still wasn't able to generate goals on offense to counter TCNJ.

Both squads were even for most of the first half until TCNJ capitalized on a corner kick opportunity as Michael Kassak found James Pike for a header into the net in the 23rd minute.

With 41 seconds remaining in the first half, the Lions added to their lead with another header goal from Ryan Vasquez off a cross from Matt Decker.

FDU-Florham worked in the second half as forward Justin Barbosa fired one on net but to no avail as it was blocked by the Lions' Ethan Mueller on defense.

The Lions scored a third insurance goal from Peter Dresch who slammed one to the bottom right corner of the net on a rebound from a defensive block.

FDU-Florham tried to find its way back into the game as senior Shawn Jennings blasted a free kick on net, Lions' goalie Michael Kayal came up with the save.

The Devils saw their best scoring opportunity with 1:05 remaining in the contest when junior forward Henry Garcia-Arias sprinted the ball up the left side of the field and crossed it to classmate Anthony Pares who hit the ball just wide of the net.

TCNJ finished the game outshooting the Devils 22-10 and enjoying an 11-4 penalty kick advantage.

Up next the Devils travel to Scranton, Pa. to face Marywood University on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 1 p.m.
