MADISON, N.J. (September 1, 2017) - The FDU men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Stockton in its aseason-opener Friday afternoon.
After each side a shot sail wide, Stockton broke through in the 13th minute as Eucario Solano took a feed from Nick Cristea to open the scoring. Cristea won the ball just outside the 18, and found Solano who scored for his first of the season.
FDU had three chances to equalize midway through the half, but the Stockton keeper get the ball out of the net. With 2:23 left in the first, a header by
Henry Garcia-Arias was snared by the goalie. Despite trailing, the Devils held a 7-3 edge in shots during the opening 45 minutes.
As FDU pressed for the tying goal, senior
JT Bretschneider made a big save on header shots in the 67th and 78th minutes by the Ospreys. After freshman
Ricky La Stella had a shot blocked in the 83rd minute, Stockton pressed with a strong counter attack and this time Cristea was on the receiving end of a pass to double the visitors lead. FDU had one shot late in the game but the attempt sailed high, and Stockton escaped with a 2-0 win.
Junior
John Timmes led the team with three shots, while Bretschneider had one save.
FDU will be back in action on Sunday, hosting NYU at 3 p.m.
