EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. (April 28, 2017) - Freshman
Pat Stewart scored a career-best three goals to lead the FDU men's lacrosse team to an 11-4 win over Wilkes in the regular season finale Friday.
The Devils even their record at 8-8 and are currently 4-3 in the MAC Freedom. They have clinched the No. 4 seed in the MAC Freedom Championship Tournament next week, and will travel to No. 1 Misericordia on Wednesday at a time to be determined.
After surrendering the opening tally 2:39 in, junior
Dan Sagl evened the game with 7:18 left with an unassisted goal. Just 1:34 later, Stewart pumped in his first tally of the evening off a feed from
Kyle Conrad.
The teams traded markers to open the second quarter before senior
Dalton Rimmer scored with just under nine and half minutes left in the quarter. Rimmer's goal ignited a 7-0 spurt spanning the rest of the second and beginning of the third quarters.
During the rally, junior
David Stewart recorded his 50th career goal, while Rimmer and
Pat Stewart completed hat-tricks. With time winding down in the fourth, senior
Connor May picked his first goal of the season, capping off the regular season.
Sophomore
Tom Tornetto and freshman
Adam Reifer each played a half, combining for 14 saves. Senior
Dan Decker had 12 ground balls, while
Will Kenny went 10-for-18 face-offs with six ground balls. Rimmer and
David Stewart combined for four goals and seven points in the win.
