DALLAS, Pa. (May 3, 2017) - Senior
Matt Melnik scored a season-high three goals, but the FDU men's lacrosse fell to No. 1 Misericordia in the MAC Freedom Semifinals 13-10 Wednesday.
The Devils are now 8-9, and await any postseason opportunities.
FDU surrendered seven of the opening nine goals, but Melnik had a man up goal and freshman
John Belanger tallied his 40th marker of the season. With time winding down in the opening half, sophomore
Michael Warg converted a pass from senior
Dalton Rimmer to cut the Misericordia lead to 7-3 heading into the break.
The Devils used a three goal third quarter to get within two, as Rimmer opened scoring 4:26 into the frame. After Chris Fleming scored the hosts, freshman
Mike Gartner answered just 23 seconds later for his first career tally. 2:30 later, it was Warg who converted a man-up opportunity, sending the game into the fourth quarter with the Devils down two.
After trading goals to begin the fourth, Misericordia found life and pumped in four straight tallies midway through to open back up a six goal lead. The Devils got a pair from Melnik late, and along with a tally from junior
Dan Sagl on the man-down to get within three, it was as close as they would get.
Sophomore
Tom Tornetto made 20 saves in goal, while senior
Dan Decker had eight ground balls and a caused turnover. Rimmer and Melnik each four point evenings, while junior
Will Kenny was 16-of-23 on faceoffs.
