Men's Lacrosse Falls In Triple Overtime to Eastern

MADISON, N.J. (April 13, 2017) - Senior Dalton Rimmer tallied six points, but the FDU men's lacrosse team fell in triple overtime to Eastern, 15-14 on Wednesday evening.

The Devils drop to 5-7, 1-2 in the MAC Freedom, while Eastern is 7-6, 2-1 in the conference.

The teams traded the first six goals, with freshman John Belanger netting a pair and David Stewart scoring in the first 8:01 of the game. Belanger's second tally came a mere seven seconds after the Eagles grabbed a 3-2 lead. After Rimmer's first goal sent FDU into the second with a 4-3 lead, Eastern scored seven times in the second quarter, including four straight at one point. The Devils headed into half-time trailing 11-7.

Eastern's Matt Martin notched his third goal of the contest 3:17 into the third, but Devils freshman Alec Orazietti scored consecutive goals to stop the rally. Rimmer contributed a man-down goal with 2:23 left in the third, and just 13 seconds later it was sophomore Michael Warg who tallied a big man-up goal. Warg would score with 47 seconds left in the third to cut the gap to one heading into the fourth.

A scoreless five minutes passed before Martin scored his fourth of the evening, but Rimmer tallied two goals in the final 3:05 of the fourth to force overtime. The second came with just 25 ticks left on the clock. Sophomore Tom Tornetto made four big saves in the three overtime periods to keep FDU in the game. The Devils had three chances in the second OT to score, but each attempt sailed wide. With a man-up Sean Fechter ended the game for Eastern in the third overtime.

Tornetto made 19 saves in the setback, while senior Dan Decker had five caused turnovers and four ground balls. Rimmer had four goals and a pair of assists while winning nine faceoffs, as Warg, Orazietti, and Stewart all tallied two goals.

FDU is back in action on Wednesday, taking on Delaware Valley.
