Women's Hoops Vying for MAC Freedom Championship

MADISON, N.J. (February 24, 2017) – The FDU women's basketball team looks to claim its fifth consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Championship Saturday.

GAME INFO
The Devils will take on No. 3 seeded DeSales at 1 p.m. inside the Ferguson Recreation Center.
 
LAST TIME OUT
FDU took down No. 4 seeded Eastern 66-60 on Wednesday in the MAC Freedom Semifinals. Freshman Kendrea Williams scored 25 points in the win.
 
DESALES REPORT
DeSales outlasted No. 2 seeded Misericordia 84-81 in double overtime Wednesday. The Bulldogs went 20-6, and were led by senior Morgan McCollian, who tallied 15.1 points per game while grabbing 8.4 rebounds per game.
 
FAMILIAR FOE

The two sides met twice in the regular season this year, and will be meeting for the MAC Freedom Championship for the third time in four years.
 
GAME 1 (83-51 FDU, @FDU-Florham)
FDU limited DeSales to 5-of-24 from beyond the arc, and senior Alyssa McDonough totaled 19 points and 15 rebounds as the Devils rolled to a 32-point victory. Senior Rachel Groom also notched a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.
 
GAME 2 (84-81 FDU, @DeSales)

With FDU leading by 11 heading into the fourth quarter, DeSales battled back to grab a two point lead with 24 seconds left. McDonough took over, scoring the game's final five points and recording a steal as DeSales was looking to take the lead back with 13 seconds left. The senior ended the game with 26 points and 12 rebounds.
 
AWARD SEASON
Williams was named MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year after averaging 20.8 points per game during 13 conference regular season games. McDonough was tabbed to the First Team All-MAC Freedom while Groom earned Second Team accolades.
 
CROS IT OUT
Sophomore Kayla Croswell was an unsung hero in Wednesday's victory, as she scored eight points, nine rebounds and three steals. Croswell tallied six points and three offensive boards in the fourth quarter Wednesday to help the Devils top Eastern.
 
GROOM IS GRAND
Against Stevenson earlier this year, Groom became the 17th player in program history to record 1,000 career points.
 
SETTING THE MARC
Already the winningest coach in program history, Head Coach Marc Mitchell recorded his 150th career win when the Devils topped Wilkes on January 4.
