POMONA, N.J. (February 21, 2017) - Freshman
Ty Tracey netted his first two collegiate goals but the FDU men's lacrosse team fell to Stockton 17-7 in their season opener Tuesday.
After a scoreless eight minutes, FDU got on the board first as freshman
John Guido converted a pass from junior
David Stewart for his first career tally. The lead was short-lived, as off the ensuing face-off Stockton raced down the field and scored six ticks later. The Devils returned the favor, putting one home a minute later thanks to a clean face-off win and goal by senior
Dalton Rimmer.
FDU netted goals 37 seconds apart in the second period, as freshman
John Belanger and Tracey entered the goal column for the first time in their young careers, but the host Ospreys tallied the next five to go ahead 6-4. With an extra man opportunity, Stewart scored off a pass from Rimmer cutting the gap to one.
The Ospreys scored the next 10 goals before freshman
Pat Stewart and Tracey broke the run. Stockton added one more before the game ended for the 10 goal margin.
Rimmer won four faceoffs, while Belanger led the way with nine shots. Senior
Dan Decker picked up a team-high five ground balls, as sophomore
Tom Tornetto stopped 23 shots in goal.
The Devils will be back in action Friday, taking on Rosemont at 4 p.m.
