ROSEMONT, Pa. (February 24, 2017) - Freshmen
John Belanger and
Alec Orazietti combined for 11 goals to lead the FDU men's lacrosse team to a 17-9 win over Rosemont Friday.
The win evened the Devils record at 1-1.
FDU wasted no time, getting on the board twice in the opening 1:59. The Stewart brothers, junior
David Stewart and freshman
Pat Stewart each recorded a goal. After Rosemont got one back, Belanger netted a pair of man-up goals, and Orazietti potted one of his one to give FDU a 5-1 lead after one.
Belanger completed his hat trick with back-to-back tallies 59 seconds apart in the second. Rosemont used a five goal spurt in the third quarter to pull within a goal, but senior
Mike Duesler stopped the run with an unassisted tally. Orazietti netted three fourth quarter tallies, with Belanger scoring the final two markers to give FDU the eight goal edge.
FDU held a 45-28 edge in shots, and went 20-of-22 in clearing attempts. In a penalty-filled contest, FDU converted 6-of-16 man-up opportunities. Belanger totaled six goals and two assists on 15 shots, while Orazietti also chipped in 15 shots. Junior
Will Kenny was 7-of-12 on faceoffs, with senior
Dan Decker picking up seven ground balls. Sophomore
Tom Tornetto made nine stops in the victory.
FDU is back in action Friday March 3, taking on Muhlenberg.
