BRONX, N.Y. (December 29, 2017) - The FDU women's basketball team knocked off Lehman 104-71 in the championship game of the 11th Annual Coaches vs. Classic Friday.
The Devils picked up their third straight victory, improving to 7-4.
A 10-2 run in the first quarter opened a a double-digit lead for the Devils. The spurt was capped off with triples from
Raven Dowling and
Kendrea Williams. Dowling would add five straight late in the frame, and sophomore
Gabrielle Harris hit a fast-break layup with six seconds left in the first to give FDU a 30-12 lead.
The Devils took a 17-2 rally spanning the first and second quarters to blow the game open, going up by as much as 25 in the period. The team shot 47.5% from the field in the opening 20 minutes, including hitting five three pointers.
Despite the Lightning opening the second half with a six consecutive markers, the Devils rebounded with 23 straight points, capped off with a layup and free throw from Williams.
FDU shot even better in the second half, firing at a 57.5% clip. Harris had a season-best 31 points (15-of-25 from the field) and five assists, while Williams added 24 points and four helpers. Junior
Bria Smith notched another double-double, scoring 16 points while hauling in 11 boards.
FDU will be back in action on Wednesday January 3, hosting Wilkes in the MAC Freedom Conference opener at 8 p.m. in the Ferguson Recreation Center.
