NEW YORK, N.Y. (December 27, 2017) - Despite a team-high 19 points from junior
Darren Davy, the FDU men's basketball team was knocked off by Yeshiva 87-68 Wednesday.
FDU was unable to overcome a slow start, surrendering 15 of the opening 17 points. A Davy jumper with 8:23 left in the opening half kick-started a 7-0 spurt by the Devils, cutting the deficit down to a single possession. That would be as close as the Devils would get, but freshman
Oliver Ortman canned a trey with 36 seconds left in the half to cut the gap to eight heading into the break,
Junior
Anthony Mitchell and freshman
Ahmad St. Fleur each scored two points to bring the lead down to seven with 16:30 left, but FDU was unable to get any closer. The Devils shot 43.8% in the half, but the Maccabees hit of 8-of-19 from behind the arc to stave off the comeback hopes.
Davy hauled in a team-best nine rebounds, while St. Fleur had 13 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Mitchell chipped in nine points and four helpers off the bench, as the Devils reserve units notched 22 points combined.
The Devils will head to Tennessee for games on Friday and Saturday, taking on the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Lagrange College respectively.
