GALLATIN, Tenn. (December 29, 2017) - The FDU men's basketball was tripped up the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 73-52 in the first game of the Music City Classic Friday.
The Devils surrendered the first 10 points of the game before a pair of free throws by junior
Darren Davy opened the scoring. Davy would tally the first six points for FDU on the afternoon.
The Eagles went on a 17-2 run after a Davy layup, extending the lead to 21. Despite shooting just 23.1% from the field, the Devils controlled the ball well in the first half, turning the ball over just four times while forcing seven.
A 6-0 run by FDU starting the second half got the deficit down to a manageable 13 points, and a trey from junior
Anthony Mitchell got things to within 11 with 13:19 left. That would be as close as the Devils would get, as the Eagles held FDU to just two field goals over the final 6:29 of the game.
Davy led the Devils with 17 points, while Mitchell had 13 and four assists. Freshman
Oliver Ortman contributed 10 points while hitting from behind the arc three times.
FDU wraps up 2017 with a 4 p.m. tip against LaGrange College tomorrow.
