Box Score ST. DAVID'S, Pa. (November 1, 2017) - The FDU men's soccer team was tripped up by Eastern 4-0 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Semifinals Wednesday.
The Devils close out their season with a 3-13-1 overall mark, while Eastern advances to the finals and has a 13-4-1 record.
The Eagles opened the scoring in the ninth minute, as Jadon Ramsing headed in a corner kick from Colin Furlong. FDU's
Shawn Jennings had an attempt the minute after the goal, but the shot went high and wide. The No. 1 seeded Eagles doubled their lead in the 19th minute. Ramsing took a header attempt off a Furlong corner that rang off the crossbar, but Sean Dougherty put the rebound in to make the score 2-0.
The Devils had their first big opportunity in the 43rd minute, but senior
Brian Chiarello's 30-yard free kick attempt was saved by the keeper. With 56 seconds left in the half, Eastern's Evan Needs swiped a back-pass and touched the ball into the net to give the hosts a 3-0 lead right before the halftime whistle.
Chiarello and
Nat Amadeo shots stopped midway through the second period, as Chiarello's attempt was stopped with a diving effort. The Eagles pressed for more, but sophomore
Liam Ryan was able to thwart several close chances. With just under 10 minutes left, Cade Harmon converted a breakaway, putting the Eagles up 4-0. Ryan made two more stops after to hold the final 4-0 margin.
Chiarello had a season-high four shots, while Ryan made five saves in net.
