Field Hockey Cruises to 4-0 Conference Win Over Eastern

The Devils Played in their Annual Play 4 a Cure Game

MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham field hockey team scored two goals in 12 minutes to defeat Eastern University, 4-0, in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom contest at Robert T. Shields Field Saturday afternoon.

The Devils picked up their 10th win of the season during their annual pink game in which all proceeds made during the contest are donated directly to the Play 4 a Cure foundation in hopes of finding a cure for Breast Cancer.

FDU-Florham out-shot the Eagles, 14-5, in the first half and 19-14 overall as they move to 3-0 in the conference.

Senior forward Marissa Kowalskie notched the game-winner just 9:38 into the game off a feed from classmate Gabby Allen.

Just under two minutes later junior Alyssa Mele won the ball in the Eagles' zone and slammed it into the back of the cage for an insurance goal, forcing an Eastern timeout.

FDU-Florham's defense of Allen, senior Lauren Brannan, junior Stephanie Noll and freshman Marie Pietracatella held Eastern to just three shots on goal in the first, as the Devils led 2-0 at the half.

Eastern came out in the second with a more aggressive offense but freshman Marissa Colvin halted the Eagles' momentum with her first collegiate goal in the 54th minute off a pass from junior forward Kelly O'Neill.

Sophomore Maggie Sohns closed out the dominant offensive campaign for the Devils with a tally in the 65th minute off another O'Neill feed.

In net, junior goalie Samantha Rubin made seven saves while freshman Megan March added one in the victory.

Up next, FDU-Florham travels to Annville, Pa. to face Lebanon Valley College in a non-conference test on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 6:30 p.m.
