Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Upended by Lebanon Valley, 2-1

SANNVILLE, Pa. (October 11, 2017) - Senior Marissa Kowalskie scored the lone goal, but the FDU field hockey team was topped by Lebanon Valley 2-1 in double overtime Wednesday evening.

FDU is now 10-4 after having its three game winning streak ended, while LVC improved to 4-9 on the season.

The Dutchwomen had an early opportunity as a shot by Cecile Kat was heading towards the goal, but junior Makayla Pak was there to record the defensive save. After two more LVC shot attempts, the Devils took over, taking five shots over the next five minutes.

Kowalskie broke the deadlock in the 20th minute, as she converted junior Brooke Sherwin's quick pass into the left side of the cage for her seventh of the year. The Dutchwomen defense tightened after the goal, limiting FDU to just one shot over final 14 minutes of the half.

The hosts would find an equalizer in the 28th minute, as Olivia Poltonavage scored on a stroke. With 1:11 left, Pak notched her second defensive save of the night, denying Jenna Lysakowski this time.

Sherwin had back-to-back shots stopped by LVC keeper Victoria ByDeley in the 57th and 58th minute respectively, and in the 59th minute the Devils were awarded a penalty stroke. However, sophomore Marie Pietracatella was stopped by ByDeley, keeping the score 1-1. FDU had consecutive penalty corners at the end of the half, but were unable to capitalize.

The visitors dominated the first overtime period, holding an 8-2 edge in shots but Justine could not push the ball across the goal-line. The roles reversed in the second overtime, but senior Lauren Brannan came up with the teams' third defensive save of the night, preserving the tie in the 88th minute. The Dutchwomen ended the game in the 95th minute, as Poltonavage netted her second penalty stroke of the evening.

Junior Samantha Rubin made nine saves, while Kowalskie had nine shots.

The Devils resume conference play as they head to Center Valley, Pa. for an 11 a.m. showdown against DeSales.
