Field Hockey Tops DeSales 2-1 in Overtime

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (October 14, 2017) - Sophomore Marie Pietracatella scored the game-winning tally 3:28 into overtime to lead the FDU field hockey team to a 2-1 win over DeSales on Saturday.

With the victory, the Devils move to 11-4, 4-0 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom, while DeSales fell to 8-6, 2-2 in conference.

The host Bullodgs wasted little time putting on shots on goal, taking two off a penalty corner just 23 seconds in. The second attempt was cleared off the goal-line by senior defender Lauren Brannan. The Devils ripped off the next five shots, but could not find the back of the cage.

In the 18th minute, Madison Brader of DeSales broke the 0-0 deadlock with shot off a corner that deflected off a defender and in for her third goal of the year. For the next 17 minutes neither side was able to get a shot on goal, and the Bulldogs headed into the half with a one goal lead.

Eleven minutes into the second stanza, the Devils found the equalizing goal, as sophomore Maggie Sohns blasted a shot from just inside the circle for her third marker of the season. Just five minutes later, Brannan came up big on the defensive end, making yet another defensive save. The Devils defense clamped down, allowing just that shot on goal during the second period.

FDU needed just one shot in overtime to get the win, as Pietracatella knocked home a centering pass from senior Marissa Kowalskie to keep the Devils perfect in conference action.

Sohns led all Devils players with three shots, while keeper Samantha Rubin made one save.

The Devils conclude their three-game road trip with a game against Delaware Valley on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
