Women's Volleyball Rolls Past Delaware Valley

MADISON, N.J. (October 3, 2017) - The FDU volleyball team limited Delaware Valley to a -.012 hitting percentage en route to a 25-10, 25-6, 25-9 victory Tuesday.

The win was the Devils 11th in a row, moving to 15-3 and 3-1 in conference. The Aggies are 2-7, 0-4 in conference.

Back-to-back aces by junior Lauren Harria sparked four straight to help FDU take control of the first set. Delaware Valley climbed to within six at 14-8, but it was close as they would get. Harris powered home three consecutive kills, and the set ended on an unforced error by the Aggies.

With the second stanza even at four, the Devils closed out a 21-2 run, with Harris and senior Rachel Catena serving. During Catena's set-ending 8-0 run, she served up four aces, including two sets of back-to-back aces. Freshman Christina Massa also chipped in a big kill, bringing the game to set point.

The Devils scored six of the first eight points, but the a Kayla Bracken kill brought the score to 9-6. After an Aggie service error, junior Marissa Lehnert and Conte combined for a big double block, before Catena served two straight aces. Senior Melissa Gaffney ended the match on a 6-0 spurt, and Harris sent down back-to-back kills, including match point.

FDU allowed just 12 kills against 14 errors, while also holding an 11-0 edge in service aces. Catena led the way with six aces, while Harris had three with 10 kills and eight digs. Gaffney powered home 12 kills and also collected eight digs.

The Devils will welcome Alvernia and Brooklyn for a tri-match beginning at 10 a.m.
