SCRANTON, Pa. (October 28, 2017) - The FDU volleyball team topped Marywood and Lancaster Bible in straight sets to close out the regular season Saturday.
The Devils conclude the regular season with a 25-7 mark, and will open MAC Freedom Tournament play as the No. 3 seed, taking on No. 2 Eastern Wednesday.
FDU 3, Marywood 0 (25-9, 25-16, 25-13)
The Devils held Marywood to a -.040 hitting percentage, including just one kill in the opening set. The teams each had 96 attack attempts, but the Devils committed just eight errors, as opposed to 25 from Marywood.
Senior
Melissa Gaffney led the way with 12 kills, 12 digs and four aces, while junior
Marissa Lehnert had eight kills and three blocks. Junior
Lauren Harris also totaled seven kills and 12 digs, while senior
Courtney Conte dished out 20 assists.
FDU 3, Lancaster Bible 0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-16)
The Devils used a .257 hitting percentage in the first and third sets while Lancaster Bible hit .100 over the three frames to win in straight sets. The team also held a slight edge in aces (6-3) and blocks (3-2) while also out 17 more assists over the three sets.
Gaffney and Harris each notched double-doubles, with Gaffney tallying a team bests 17 kills and 11 digs. Harris had 10 kills and 16 digs, while Conte dished out 34 assists. Senior
Rachel Catena totalted 12 digs in the win.
