Lauren Harris reached the 1,000 career kill mark as the FDU women's volleyball team knocked off Manhattanville in five sets Wednesday.
The Devils who improved to 23-7 and 5-2 in conference, clinched the No. 3 seed in next weeks Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Tournament. The Valiants drop to 12-10, 3-4 in the MAC Freedom. DeSales and Eastern are the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds respectively.
The first set, which featured nine ties and two lead changes, saw the Devils close to within point at 24-23 after sophomore
Nathalia Padron pounded home a kill. The Valiants racked off the next four points to claim the first set.
The Devils went ahead 12-5 in the second, and stretched the lead to 20-16 after a kill by junior
Katie Quinlan. A Harris kill from senior
Courtney Conte evened the match at one all.
The third stanza was another tight one, seeing 11 different ties and three lead changes. Harris reached the 1,000 kill plateau to push the Devils lead to 20-16. After the Valiants closed to within 24-21, the Camas, Wash. native slammed home a kill to put the FDU up 2-1.
After dropping a closely contested 25-23 fourth set, FDU rebounded in the fifth. Padron and Harris notched back-to-back kills to make the score 12-7, and a kill by Harris from Quinlan ended the match.
Senior
Melissa Gaffney, Harris, and Conte had double-doubles. Conte handed out her 1,000th assist on the season, finishing with 60 on thw night and 29 digs. Harris had 24 kills and 19 digs, while Gaffney had 13 kills and 24 digs.
