MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham field hockey team held No. 9 Montclair State University scoreless for 72 minutes but ultimately fell, 1-0, in overtime at Robert T. Shields Field in a non-conference match on Tuesday night.
The Devils celebrated their four seniors of
Marissa Kowalskie,
Lauren Brannan,
Gabby Allen and
Paige Zawislak before the contest for Senior Day.
FDU-Florham dominated the second half, outshooting their opponent, 7-1, but Red Hawks goalie Kaitlin Maguire held solid, making eight stops in the night.
Junior
Brooke Sherwin led the Devils offense with three shots while Zawislak and freshman
Marissa Colvin fired two on goal each, but to no avail.
The Devils best chance came off a shot from Zawislak just over two minutes into the second half, but a Montclair defender filled in with a defensive save to hold things even.
On defense, junior
Makayla Pak, Brannan, Allen and freshman
Marie Pietracatella were outstanding, blocking shots and holding the Red Hawks to just nine shots on goal. Pietracatella came up big with a defensive save on Amber Haslett's shot at 14:26 in the first half.
Montclair State finally broke the scoreless game in the 73
rd minute when Victoria Rossi fed the ball to Kaitlyn Struss who fired it in the net at point-blank range to earn the 1-0 win.

Samantha Rubin played a pivotal role, making eight saves.
Up next, the Devils close out their regular season against Middle Atlantic Conference foe Manhattanville College on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. in Purchase, N.Y.
