Men's Soccer Blanks Misericordia, 4-0

MADISON, N.J. -- The FDU-Florham men's soccer team rolled to a 4-0 win over Misericordia University in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom matchup at the Florham campus grass fields Saturday morning.

The Devils move to 3-11-1 on the season and 3-2-1 in the conference as the Cougars dropped to 2-13 and 2-3-1 in the conference.

Misicordia slightly outshot the Devils, 14-12, but junior forward Justin Barbosa score twice and freshmen Ricky La Stella and Michael Rosario tallied one each to grab the victory.

In the 25th minute, La Stella broke through with the game-winner off a feed from junior Jake Karlsberg, running in on the left side and firing in the ball to the bottom right corner of the net to put the Devils up, 1-0, at the half.

FDU-Florham came out strong as Barbosa won the ball of a poor clear attempt, went on the breakaway and slammed it to the bottom left corner early in the second stanza.

Misericordia continued to put on the pressure but a strong defensive showing from freshman Nick Halpin, Shaun Bishop, Kenneth Campen and sophomore Nat Amadeo were able to block several attempts and even cleared the ball off the goal line for a defensive save to keep things even.

In thet 72nd minute, Rosario took things into his own hands and blasted the ball into the back of the net.

The Devils completed their offensive campaign with a goal in the 79th minute when Barbosa converted on a one-timer header off a free kick from Karlsberg to make it 4-0.

In goal, sophomore Liam Ryan needed to make four stops to earn the triumph.

Up next, the Devils will close out their regular season against King's College on the Florham Campus grass field on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m. in a conference contest.
