NEWBURGH, N.Y. (October 19, 2017) - The FDU volleyball team knocked off Mount St. Mary 25-17, 25-9, 25-14 Thursday evening.
The Devils moved to 21-6 with the win, while the Knights fell to 9-17.
FDU ran into trouble in the first set, falling behind 9-6. Senior

Courtney Conte.
A Conte attack error evened the frame at 16, but an unforced service error put FDU up for good at 17-16. Junior
Lauren Harris had four points straight, coupled with consecutive kills from junior
Katie Quinlan. Catena finished the period off with five in a row, with Lehnert solo-blocking set point.
Senior
Amelia Vetto served up consecutive aces during an opening 9-3 run in the second set as the Devils forced the Knights into a -.061 hitting percentage during the set. Conte had another big run serving, and Harris puncuated the period with a kill.
The third frame was of the same, as it saw unforced errors push the Devils lead to 10-5. Despite getting to within 20-14, Catena never let the Knights break serve, finishing with the final five points to clinch the match.
Senior
Melissa Gaffney had 12 kills, while Harris notched a double-double of 10 kills and 14 digs. Conte handed out 36 assists, as Catena and Vetto led the way with three aces.
FDU returns to action Saturday, taking on Montclair and Hunter in a tri-match hosted by Hunter.
