HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 13, 2017) - The FDU volleyball team knocked off Montclair and Union during day one action of the Stevens Invitational.
With the two wins, the Devils moved to 19-4 on the season.
FDU-Florham 3, Montclair 0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-15)
The Devils dominated in all facets against the Red Hawks, recording more kills (35-26), aces (7-0), blocks (4-0) and digs (54-43). MSU was limited to a .029 hitting percentage, with 23 errors. FDU was disciplined, hitting 35 kills against seven errors.
Senior 
Melissa Gaffney had 11 kills, while junior 
Lauren Harris had seven kills, four aces and 11 digs.
FDU-Florham 3, Union 1 (28-26, 13-25, 25-21, 28-26)
FDU was paced by four players with 10 or more digs, led by 27 from Gaffney. Gaffney and Harris each posted double-doubles, as Harris went for 20 kills (against three errors) and 13 digs. Senior 
Rachel Catena chipped in 18 digs, as classmate 
Amelia Vetto had 11 digs and three key service aces.
Trailing 24-22 in the fourth and final set, FDU battled back and Vetto tallied an ace to go up 25-24. The teams traded the next three points, before Gaffney slammed back-to-back kills for the victory.
The Devils are back in action tomorrow, taking on Stockton and the Coast Guard at 10 a.m. and noon in day two of the Stevens Invitational.
