Men's Soccer Cruises Past Delaware Valley, 7-0

Freshman Ricky La Stella Recorded a Hat Trick in the Win

MADISON, N.J. – Freshman forward Ricky La Stella netted a hat trick as the FDU-Florham men's soccer team rolled to their second straight win against Delaware Valley, 7-0, in conference play Wednesday afternoon.

The Devils improve to 2-10 on the season and 2-1 in the Middle Atlantic Freedom Conference as the Aggies dropped to 5-7 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

La Stella scored three consecutive times in a span of 26 minutes to lead the Devils to victory.

The Bridgewater, N.J. native wasted no time, using a breakaway to knock in the game-winner just 1:41 into the contest. In the 12th minute La Stella flicked in a goal off a long pass from freshman forward Zavier Paniagua. La Stella capped off his offensive campaign with a tally to the bottom right corner off another Paniagua assist.

The Aggies struggled to get an attack going as FDU-Florham outshot their opponent, 25-6, and grabbed an 8-0 corner kick advantage.

A minute and 14 seconds following La Stella's third mark, junior midfielder Jake Karlsberg blasted one in off a clear to put things at 4-0.

About two minutes later it was junior forward Justin Barbosa who made it five when he capitalized on a goalkeeping error. Senior Brian Chiarello and freshman Michael Rosario came into the match and finished off the scoring with one each to put FDU-Florham up, 7-0, at the half. Chiarello's goal came off a rebound and a Karlsberg assist while Rosario tapped it in off a cross from junior John Timmes.

The goalie pair of senior JT Bretschneider and sophomore Liam Ryan combined for the shutout.

The Devils return to conference play next when they travel to St. Davids, Pa. to face Eastern University at 3 p.m.
