MADISON, N.J. (January 25, 2017) – The FDU women's basketball team picked up its 14
th straight win thanks to an 80-44 victory over Manhattanville Wednesday.
The Devils move to 16-2, 7-0 in the MAC Freedom, while the Valiants fall to 6-11 and 2-5 in conference play. Freshman
Kendrea Williams led all scorers with 26 points, while senior
Alyssa McDonough dropped in 21 points, 16 rebounds and six assists.
M-Ville had the early advantage grabbing a 10-7 lead 3:40 into the game. The Devils rounded into form after that, pouring in 16 straight markers and holding the Valiants scoreless for a six-minute stretch in the first period. Williams and sophomore
Raven Dowling combined for six straight tallies as the lead ballooned to 18. Dowling used two from the charity stripe to kick-start a 12-0 spurt, and Williams knocked down a trey to send FDU into break with a 30-point halftime edge.
Sophomore
Kayla Croswell scored eight of her 10 points in a 2:30 stretch beginning the third frame, and Williams and McDonough each went 2-for-3 from beyond the arc in the second half. The teams shot an identical 9-of-28 from the field in the second 20 minutes of play, but the Devils held a 25-17 edge in boards.
The Devils were active all game on the defensive end, hauling in 48 rebounds and forcing 24 turnovers. Senior
Rachel Groom notched a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, as Dowling filled the stat-sheet with seven points, seven steals and five assists.
The Devils will travel to Dallas, Pa. on Saturday for a showdown against Misericordia at 1 p.m.
