Men's Basketball Toppled by Delaware Valley

MADISON, N.J. (January 21, 2017) – The FDU men's basketball team was unable to climb out of a 12 point halftime hole, falling to Delaware Valley 81-63 Saturday.

The Devils drop their second straight, falling to 6-10 overall and evening their MAC Freedom record at 3-3. The Aggies improve to 10-7, 5-1 in the conference.

The Aggies used a 14-0 run spanning 4:17 to break open a tie game and jump ahead 22-8. FDU used an 8-0 spurt of their own to bring gap to single digits, but six free throws over the final 1:04 of the first half gave Del Val the 12-point halftime edge. Sophomore Darren Davy led the Devils with six halftime points.

Tyrea Williams of the Aggies hit three consecutive layups to build an 18-point lead, and the Aggies were well in control, going up by 30 midway through the session. The Devils were able to get a 9-0 run together, capped off by a trey from Jordan Gonzalez. Gonzalez would tally the final six points of the evening for the Devils, scoring a career-high nine in just six minutes.

Davy finished with 10 points, while the team got 32 points from the reserve unit today. Senior Donte Ali snared seven rebounds in the setback.

Andre' Butler led all scorers with 25 points and 11 boards for the Aggies, who also got 14 points from Williams.

The Devils will welcome Manhattanville on Wednesday for an 8 p.m. tipoff.
