MADISON, NJ – The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham volleyball team dominated in its home opener, defeating Mount Saint Mary College (NY), 3-0, on Wednesday Sept. 7 in the Ferguson Recreation Center.
The Devils raised their record to 3-2 on the season as the Knights fell to 1-4.
Junior
Rachel Catena and sophomore
Lauren Harris led the Devils with 12 digs each in the victory. Harris recorded 11 kills and freshman
Nathalia Padron and sophomore
Kate Quinlan contributed seven each.
Junior setter
Courtney Conte racked up 21 assists in the night.
The first set highlighted a close match, but the Devils grabbed the momentum at the end to win 25-22.
Then, in a dominating performance, the Devils took command of the second set to earn a 25-15 victory.
The Knights came out strong in the third set, grabbing an 8-3 lead. An aggressive showing from junior
Melissa Gaffney sparked the Devils' comeback, though, as they tied it up 8-8, before winning 25-18 for the sweep.
The Devils hit the road next to take on St. Joseph's Long Island College in Patchogue, N.Y. on Saturday, Sept. 10.
