Volleyball continues its dominance with 3-1 victory

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham volleyball team battled its way to a 3-1 win over St. Joseph's College – LI, on Saturday, Sept. 10 in Patchogue, N.Y.

The Devils improved their record to 4-2 while SJC fell to 1-3.

In the first set, FDU-Florham came out hot, grabbing a 5-1 quickly. The Eagles showed no mercy, however, and quickly recovered. The Devils recorded a 20-15 lead but couldn't hold on. SJC matched them with six straight points to grab the lead and an eventual victory, 25-23.

That was the only the set the Devils allowed to get by them.

In the second set, the Devils scored nine consecutive points to guarantee a 25-13 win.

Despite an evenly matched third set, FDU-Florham showed its resilience and grabbed a 25-22 win before claiming the fourth set, 25-15 for the 3-1 victory.

Sophomore Lauren Harris led the Devils with 16 kills, classmate Kate Quinlan added 11 and freshman Nathalia Padron contributed eight.

Junior setter Courtney Conte helped FDU-Florham with 37 assists while junior Rachel Catena and junior Melissa Gaffney combined for a total of 39 digs in the triumph.

The Devils take on DeSales University next on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Ferguson Recreation Center.
