MADISON, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham men's soccer team suffered a 6-1 loss to Hood College in Sunday's finale at the Drew University Fall Festival.
The shorthanded Devils (0-2-1), who were playing without several key players due to injury, were unable to slow the aggressive Blazers' (2-0) attack.
Hood's
Drew Demich and
Clay Smith each netted a pair of goals to spur the Blazers to the festival victory.
After Hood registered the game's first four goals, FDU-Florham freshman
John Fredy Gutierrez scored his first collegiate goal by hammering home an assist from
Jose Guardado.
The Blazers' offense was efficient as they scored their six goals on 17 shots and outshot the Devils 17-10 in the contest.
FDU-Florham freshman netminder
Liam Ryan made his collegiate debut and played the entire second half in goal for the Devils tallying three saves and allowing two scores.
The Devils have six days off before they return to action next week for Stockton University's Seashore Classic. The weekend begins with a match against the host Ospreys on Saturday, September 10 before a Sunday battle with Ramapo College. Both games are set for 1 p.m. in Galloway, N.J.
