Field hockey suffers 2-0 setback to Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham field hockey dropped a Middle Atlantic Conference game to Wilkes University in a 2-0 decision on Friday, Sept. 30  in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

The Devils fell to 5-5 (1-1 MAC Freedom) as Wilkes improved to 8-3 (2-0 MAC Freedom).

Despite having a 17-10 penalty corner advantage over Wilkes, FDU-Florham struggled to get one past the Lady Colonels goalie Dallas Kendra, who made seven saves in the night.

Wilkes' Gianna Gennetts found the net late in the first with a shot through traffic at the top of the circle.

The Lady Colonels' Marissa Surdy then scored an insurance goal off an assist from Haley Gayoski in the 48th minute of the contest to cap off game, 2-0.

Sophomore defender Makayla Pak highlighted a great effort for the Devils, halting the opposing attack while ripping four shots on goal in the contest. In the midfield, senior Noelle Shirey was succesful in transitioning the ball from the Devils' defensive zone to the attack consistently throughout the night.

In net, sophomore Samantha Rubin made a career-high five saves in the setback.

FDU-Florham returns to non-conference action on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. against Keystone College at Robert T. Shields Field.
