YORK, Pa. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham volleyball team had a stellar outing at the York College Spartan Invitational over the weekend, winning three games and dropping one, in York, Pa.
The Devils improved their overall record to 12-6 on the season.
FDU-Florham 3, Wilson College 0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-15)
The Devils cruised past Wilson College, 3-0, under the leadership of junior
Natalie Knudsen, freshman
Brianna Perone and juniors
Courtney Conte and
Rachel Catena.
Knudsen made five kills while freshman
Nathalia Padron and sophomore
Marissa Lehnert made four. Perone nailed four aces, Conte added assists and Catena contributed seven in the sweep.
FDU-Florham 3, SUNY Canton 2 (25-15, 10-25, 21-25, 25-11)
The Devils fought back to earn the 3-2 triumph against SUNY Canton. Junior
Melissa Gaffney ran the Devils' attack with 11 kills and two aces and she also contributed two blocks.
Catena and Padron led FDU-Florham's defense with 41 combined digs.
FDU-Florham 3, Albright 0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-20)
Sophomore
Lauren Harris led the Devils with 11 kills in the sweep as Lehnert added 10 and Gaffney made six.
Gaffney, Conte and Catena contributed two aces each and Conte made 30 assists.
Catena led FDU-Florham in digs once again with 19 as Harris collected 15 and Conte grabbed six.
FDU-Florham 2, Marietta 3 (25-23, 22-25, 24-26, 25-23, 8-15)
Once again the hitting tandem of Gaffney and Harris led the Devils in a comeback effort that fell just short in FDU-Florham's 3-2 loss to Marietta College to spoil a perfect weekend.
The pair combined for 29 kills while Conte contributed a dazzling 44 assists.
Catena highlight 36 digs while Harris made 27 and sophomore
Nikole Meluso had 20.
The Devils return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 28 against Wilkes University at 7 p.m. in the Ferguson Recreation Center.
