OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham football team dropped a tough 54-15 contest to No. 21 Stevenson University on Saturday, Sept. 24 in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom match up.
The Devils fell to 0-3 (0-2 MAC Freedom) on the season as the Mustangs improved their undefeated record to 4-0 (3-0 MAC Freedom).
FDU-Florham came out strong and left the first quarter with an 8-7 lead on the Mustangs. Stevenson struck first at 8:13 when quarterback Daniel Williams completed a pass to Preston Addo for 26 yards in the Devils' endzone.Â
But the Devils answered back before the quarter was over. An interception by freshman defensive back
Donovan Lewis gave FDU-Florham it's scoring drive. Starting at the Mustang 25, it took five plays until sophomore quarterback
Jagger Green scored the Devils' first touchdown on a one-yard rush with 30 seconds to go on the clock. Freshman quarterback
Robert Madison completed the two-point conversion attempt with a pass to freshman kicker and punter
Nick Maciejewski to grab the one-point lead.
The Mustangs didn't remain silent though, as Williams completed a pass to Devin Salisbury for 37 yards for a touchdown in a seven play, 59-yard drive to take the 14-8 lead over the Devils.Â
Stevensen later widened it's lead to 21 on an Addo touchdown with 9:52 on the clock in the second quarter.
FDU-Florham was relentless though, and found a way to break through on Madison's one-yard keeper to keep the Devils within reach at 15-21 at half, on a 60-yard, 13 play drive.
The Devils couldn't bring the momentum in the second half, however, as the Mustangs ran away with 23 points in the third quarter and added three more in the fourth to end the game at 54-15. Â
Green threw for 161 yards and completed 18 of 37 passes.
Steve Iannone led the Devils' rushing game, gaining 63 yards in the night and
Michael Panzarino hauled in five catches for 55 yards in the loss.
Defensively, FDU-Florham was led by graduate student defensive back
Troy Scales and sophomore linebacker
Isaiah Turner who combined for 11 tackles.Â
The Devils return to conference action next against Wilkes University on Saturday, Oct. 1 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
